Dr. Murphy Colvin is a native to the Bossier area, and a graduate of LSU Veterinary School. Growing up on the farm with cows, horses and hogs, Dr. Colvin knew that he wanted to get into veterinarian medicine at an early age. Dr. Colvin loves coming into work daily to figure out answers to different diagnosis, and helping your pets with all their needs. Alongside Doc and Dr. Martin he enjoys learning and developing new treatments and ways in which to help pets live happy, healthy lives. Dr. Colvin is passionate about being out in the field doing large animal work. He wants to be known for running an honest and fair vet clinic, where you and your animals feel like family. In his free time Dr. Colvin enjoys spending time with family, being on the farm working with his livestock, and hunting.
Dr. Ronald Powers
Dr. Ronald Powers, also known around these parts as “Doc”, was born in 1940 here in Shreveport, Louisiana. He grew up on a farm, participating in 4H which is where his love of animals originated. He felt that the next natural step was to become a veterinarian. Doc graduated from Auburn University, and has been practicing veterinarian medicine for just over 50 years. His passion has always been helping out people who are worried about the well-being of their pets. He is still learning and enjoys discovering new things daily. He takes a genuine interest in all the patients and everything they come in for. When Doc isn’t at the clinic he can be found out in his deer stand, or out checking on his yearlings.
Dr. Courtney Martin
As a native of Shreveport, Dr. Courtney Martin found her love of animals at an early age, but her desire to jump into veterinary medicine grew as she worked as a tech here at NLVC. While working here, Dr. Powers passion influenced Dr. Martin as to the type of doctor she wanted to become. Going above and beyond to ensure your pets health is her number one priority. She digs deep to find answers and won’t stop until she can find the perfect treatment for your pet.
Mark Twain once said “Find a job you enjoy doing and you will never work a day in your life”, and Dr. Martin has found this to be true. She looks forward to coming into the clinic every day, eager to learn new things, discover new treatments, and see new animals no matter what challenges it may bring. She has been excited to expand her knowledge from dogs and cats to turtles, chickens, rabbits, and even prairie dogs.
When Dr. Martin is not at work she can be found outdoors hiking, exploring, and camping with her six dogs and her family.
Growing up in mid Arkansas, Jessica found her way to North Louisiana her senior year of high school. She met her husband here and never looked back. She now has two children and a farm of their own. She started as a receptionist in 2015 and worked very hard to become office manager. She has worked every position in this clinic and there is not one position she doesn’t love. Animals have always been apart of her life growing up, and to find a career based around them, is the most rewarding accomplishment she could ever ask for.
Born and raised in South Bossier, Louisiana Chris grew up in a house full of cats and dogs. His pets always brought him joy and comfort while growing up. Chris was always fascinated with taking his pets to the veterinarian when they didn’t feel well and watching as they would work to help them get better. He knew then that being a part of that was what he wanted to do. About 5 years a go Chris jumped into becoming a vet tech. He says there is no better feeling than being apart of a team that helps get your pet to feeling their best. He enjoys not only working with the small animals but has developed a love for the large ones as well. You can always find him playing in the back with our boarders or giving some extra love to those that just came out of surgery. Chris says that his only regret is not jumping into this field sooner. He absolutely loves his job and it shows in all he does around the clinic. When Chris isn’t here you can find him out fishing a pond or in the kitchen cooking up something delicious.
